Lighting is the easiest way to revamp a room decor. With a few well chosen and positioned lightings, a once neutral room can turn into a cheerful and versatile space! Knowing about the different types of lightings is the key to creating a functional, aesthetic, and versatile lighting arrangement.
Ambient lights are the general purpose lights for lighting up the entire space. Ceiling lights and wall sconces are the best examples of ambient lights. These fixtures cover the wall area which in turn reflect the light and give a good look in the room.
Ambient lights are an essential component of lighting but are mostly used as background lights rather than main focal point lights.
Next comes the task lights. These are used for performing specific task such as reading, writing etc. Therefore they must be placed very accurately so that one is able to perform the desired job without any trouble.
The key to good task lightings is installing them directly over or slightly to the side of each area. Include task light in every area of the room where you carry out specific activities, at the desk, above the bar and dining table. Link them all to separate switches to be able to switch them on and off whenever you need them.
Often the most overlooked element in any room but always the most dramatic, accent light draws attention to a particular element, such as an interesting architectural or decorative object. The key here is choosing what to highlight. Don’t light every object at once or none will stand out!
Halogen lights can be used as accent lights. You can also place them under an indoor plant to create shadows on the ceiling. You can make use of many different ideas when it comes to accent lights.
While accent lights emphasize a specific accent, decorative lights are themselves the attention drawing accents. They do not provide a lot of light; their sole purpose is to grab attention and ad to the dramatic scheme of your decor.
