Take Care of Your Home Plumbing System
Every home owner has to face some plumbing issues at some point of time or the other. Even in a newly installed plumbing system, issues like blocked drains, leaking fixtures and faucets can come up any time.
While you can’t prevent every emergency, there are ways to protect and maintain home plumbing to minimize complicated repairs down the road.
Leaky faucets and fixtures may indicate internal problems such as broken or missing o-rings or loose pipes. Taking care of minor leaks before they become worse is recommended to avoid future problems. By removing the faucet spout, you will be able to check the o-rings and replace them if necessary.
If the problem is not yet solved, you may have to call a professional plumber to check your plumbing system properly. It is much easier to repair such minor defects at an early stage than to handle any serious costly issues. This way you will also save water and water bills.
Clogged drains is another common plumbing issue at homes. So, it is very important to keep them clean. The most common things that causes the drains to clog is hair, fat and grease. So, always keep a check on the material flowing down the drain. Also, make sure that kids do not throw any small toys into the toilets.
It is very important to check the main water valve as it controls the water flow of the entire home. The very first thing that you should do when you come across any plumbing emergency is to shut off the main water valve to prevent any further damage. Then you can call a plumber to fix the issue. The valve is generally located near the main water supply pipes.
The best way to check the main water valve is to turn on the water supply in any fixture like the kitchen sink or in the bath tub and then go and turn off the main water valve. The water pressure in that particular fixture should be stopped immediately and completely. If the water still flows in the fixture, that indicated a problem with your main water valve. Then you must call a plumber to get it fixed.
By maintaining the plumbing in your home, you will be able to prevent major plumbing emergencies that could end up costing a significant amount. Engaging a plumber to fix minor leaks and other issues before they get worse is a great way to invest in your home and increase your peace of mind.
