One of the bad things about marketing online is that you can sell something once and the buyer may never return. This is just the psychology of consumers, not your product or business. It is much easier to sell something to someone who has purchased a service or product from you and been satisfied with that product. That is the advantage of building a large subscription group of satisfied customers to cross market to them. Seth Godin calls these a ‘Permission Asset.’

A ‘Permission Asset’ means you will be able to make additional sales to these same people as long as you keep providing good service and value to your subscription customers.

Just be sure that you don’t drop the ball and disappoint those subscribers or you will lose that permission asset. A good thing is that good custom content can be found for reasonable cost that will keep your information fresh and interesting. If you are really keen on the subject of your subsciption service you may not need outsourced product. There are many potential audiences available, some will like what you like. So, do what you love and they will also.
