What You Need to Know About the Internet Marketing Silver Bullet
The hunt for the internet marketing silver bullet is an online adventure that is wrought with a litany of perils that few recognize when they first start out. Not only is the journey littered with a labyrinth of confusing twists and turns, but those who set foot on this path must make their way through a carnival-like atmosphere of hucksters and rip-off artists each hawking their latest “set-it-and-forget-it” program in hopes of luring them into parting with their hard-earned cash. Sifting through the scams is often enough to cause the unwary traveler give up the quest entirely.
So why are we here and what are we really looking for?
I did a recent survey where I polled a list of 3000 internet marketers and asked them to list the main things they look for when considering a new program or online business opportunity. The responses I received were very telling about the most people have while working online.
The item that topped the list of survey responses shouldn’t be a surprise, but it is surprising how often this key element is lacking in most internet marketing campaigns. When it’s included, the proverbial battle is virtually won. When it’s missing, however, success is impossible. The top response was “honesty.”
The majority of people who are working on the internet to earn some extra cash have been taken by at least one scam along the way. The program makes promises that suddenly disappear once your payment has gone through. These hucksters are often very skilled at deceit and deception and their copywriting skills and near-hypnotic persuasion methods convince the unwary traveler to pull out their credit card and enter the information into the form. After hitting the submit button they are often left with little more than a glop of worthless cyber-poo or, on the other end of the spectrum, as overly complicated “system” that managed to take hours and hours of your time without really teaching you anything worthwhile.
When prospects are looking at you product or business opportunity, the number one thing that they are concerned about is that you are honest. They are almost expecting it to be a scam or a rip-off. In addition to “being” honest, you need to “convince” them that you are honest and that you can be trusted. Unless you are able to do this, they will never do business with you.
The second most popular response from the survey about what people are looking for, was finding someone who will really help them and who will answer their questions about the program. This doesn’t mean that you have to spend all of your time holding people’s hands, but it does mean having a good system for communicating with customers and being available to help people. Most of the time, just having a good “support desk” software program can take care of this issue.
The bottom line is that people want to be treated with respect. Many marketers forget what it was like when they first got started online. They forget that people don’t yet know some of the things that they now take for granted. As a result, they often use terms or refer to processes that are completely foreign and confusing to the person just starting out. Having someone willing to help them to understand the material or a particular process is invaluable.
If you can demonstrate that you are honest and can provide real help to those who purchase your product or join your opportunity, your online business will quickly skyrocket to success. These fundamental attributes are sadly missing within the ranks of online marketing, but when they appear, they consistently attract loyal followers who will join you in building your business. It is one of the best ways to build long-term success online.
