Steps To Replace A Toilet Flush Valve

When ensuring a complete sanitation to your home, plumbing assignments such as replacing a broken toilet flush valve, cannot be left pending. This would completely hurt the sanitation schema of your toilet and bathroom. Instead of availing the services of a plumber straightaway, take the assignment in your own hands.

Before you look to replace the faulty flush valve with a new one, try diagnosing the flaw in the valve and evaluate if it can be fixed. If the fault seems to be irreparable then move to the replacement job of the flush valve.

Also arrange all the plumbing tools that would play a pivotal role in the success of the project. These tools include the wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, Teflon tape etc. Once all the tools are arranged, turn off the water supply valve which is located below the tank.

First, flush down all the water that is contained in the tank. In case the flushing function doesn’t work properly, take out water manually from the tank with the help of a small container. Remove the water left by absorbing it with the help of a piece of cloth. Once completely emptied, look into the tank to locate a valve chain clipped to a trip arm. Carefully undo the valve chain from the trip arm such that the adjoining setup is not damaged.

Once the flapper and the flush valve seat is exposed, take a look at the juncture between the flapper and the overflow tube. The clips that are attached on the sides of the overflow tube are detached carefully. The style of the clips may vary from one flush valve to another hence, the method of detaching the clips may be vary as well. Take out the flush valve from the tank and walk down to a local hardware store to demand a similar flush valve which offers the same features as the old one. Compare the flapper style and the clips of the old valve to the new one. Once convinced, bring home the new valve.

Install the new flush valve by resting it on the flush valve seat and attaching the side clips to the overflow tube such that the flush flapper fits well on the flush valve seat.

Attach the valve chain to the trip chain again and finish off the installation of the new flush valve.

Turn off the water supply valve situated at the bottom of the tank. Examine the flush valve and the affiliated setup for it’s normal operation.
