The MLM ‘Head’ Game
As I sat down to write this article today, I didn’t know what direction I was going to go. That said, I started to think about a very significant life experience I had almost two years ago. It was the most devastating thing to happen in my life personally, but it has significantly changed my network marketing career. Huh? Read on and I’ll explain.
This story starts when I left my full-time job at a network marketing company. I began my MLM career thinking that will all that experience, I’d have no problems earning $100K in a matter months! Well, I was sorely mistaken. You see, I did my job of training & developing representatives by reading a lot about network marketing and then, simply teaching what I read. I didn’t truly implement what I learned because, at the end of the day, I was still a salaried employee and would get the same check at the end of the week. There was no motivation to practice these skills!
The great thing about this scenario was that I HAD been reading and self-developing for a while, so I was in a very good place mentally with this new profession, but just not skilled yet. When I’d face a challenge, I’d go looking for answers. I continued to also attend networking groups and joined recreational groups to expand my network. During one of these meetings, I met another network marketer that I hit it off with. One day, she invited me to San Diego to meet her business coach, Jeffrey Combs, and to attend a one-day seminar of his.
I wasn’t sure who Jeffrey Combs was, but if my friend Judith wanted me to meet him, I felt like I should. I drove to San Diego and that day was a defining moment in my life. I hired Jeffrey as my coach and part of my program was a 2 1/2 day seminar with Jeffrey entitled, ‘Breakthroughs to Success.’
That seminar was life-changing in to many ways. It was the first time I had experienced such life-changing knowledge. Not concepts or techniques, but knowledge about myself and what was REALLY holding me back. It couldn’t have happened at a more perfect time. That year, I had had some very impactful hurdles hit my life. These hurdles rocked my world and threw my life upside down. I had a bad experience and I was trying to figure out why. What I didn’t realize at the time that I know now was that bad experience set into motion some of the most positive things that have come to me in my life.
How did I go from really bad experience to being in one of the best places I’ve ever been? When this particular challenge happened, I had to really take a look inside to see what led to it. I had to face some emotions and decisions that I had made to get me into that situation. I realized that I had made the situation, but what I realized, was that if I had the power to create a bad experience, I also had the power to create great experiences. I got my self there, I could get myself out and create only great things. I understood the power of our thoughts, our actions and our results!
I now understood how powerful the mind can be. I learned to forgive, to move forward and turn the rest of my life into MY life. I had the control on my thoughts, which then lead to my actions. I had an opportunity for a couple of years to move my family out West. I chose not to do it because of the people I’d hurt by leaving my town. Two months after coming to my realization, we packed up and moved West. We moved ultimately for the betterment of my family, but ultimately it was for ME. Six months later, I had decided to leave a job that was making me miserable. I made MAJOR decisions in order to get control back in my life. I no longer used the ‘What if…’ scenario…i.e. ‘What if I don’t like California,’ ‘What if I quit my job and I can’t make it work as a Network Marketer?’ ‘What if….’
The ‘What if’s’ had to go because what I realized was that when I controlled my actions, I controlled the outcomes. I believe that I will be a network marketing phenomenon, I believe that California is the place for me. There is no place for ‘What ifs.’ I will find the correct path no matter what.
I certainly haven’t achieved my goals yet. I have a way to go for that, but when I look back at some of the people that I have met in this journey, there are a few that were life-changing and I know its because of my thoughts. You see, my thoughts are ‘come hell or high water’ I’m figuring this thing out. When I am challenged in an area, I meet someone that can help me in that area! It’s amazing how all of this works and I wish everyone in the world could really get that. But I know most will never get it and its SO sad!
Life can change so drastically in a short amount of time when a change of mindset happens. Mine has changed. My purpose now is to only attract these people. These are the only people I want to work with. I have spent too much time with people who aren’t big thinkers, who pick apart every challenge, quit too soon, and its exhausting. I have spent time now with millionaires, big thinkers, and people who teach me new skills everyday. It’s so refreshing! If you are a big thinker and have higher aspirations for yourself, then you are just the person I want to connect with offline. I want you on my team, I want you to be in my sphere of influence. You never know where relationships like that could lead! For thinkers like me, the sky is the limit!
