SEO – What Is Linkbaiting?
Linkbaiting is a term used to describe the action of posting content that will tempt viewers of the content to link to that content from their own website. A successful linkbait can generate a huge influx of traffic in a very short space of time. It will also mean a massive increase in your search engine rankings as most search engines algorithms value the number of backlinks highly when deciding which page outranks another.
Linkbaiting is easier said than done; there are many ways that you can create a linkbait, but it is not easy to perfect. In fact, the success of linkbaiting relies on too many factors to make it a fine art. Though the topics below describe what you should do in order to create a first-class linkbait.
Controversy – Controversy does not mean being racist, slanderous or abusive. The idea behind a controversial linkbait is that you create content that offers an alternative, opposing view to another article or published opinion. You must ensure that your content has grounding and the viewers will be able to relate in some way to what your content is suggesting. If not, you could be alienating yourself, and possibly generate negative opinion of your site.
Up-to-date content – The internet offers users immediate reports of events happening around the globe twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. If you can offer a timely report on a current event and you can promote your article well enough, you will be able to generate traffic and backlinks as people read your article and create links to your website.
Funny, cool or crazy content – It has to be said that the most popular forms of Linkbaiting is by offering content that is either crazy, funny or cool. People love sharing jokes, amusing and strange videos and other odd content with their friends and co-workers. Though the problem with these kinds of linkbait is that the backlinks are generally of less value due to where they are posted (most commonly in the depths of internet forums), but every backlink helps!
Well written text – A well structured, well written article will always encourage a decent number of backlinks if promoted adequately. This is one of the more obvious ways as if somebody enjoys reading content, then the chances are that they will want to pass the content on to other people via a backlink.
Successful linkbaiting is all about innovation in content. With the increase in popularity of social networking sites and blogs, linkbaiting has become easier to accomplish and more productive, though without innovation, you will always be in second place.
